How They Are Similar

Authors Note: This is a comparative essay between two characters, One from the Hunger Games series and one from the book The Fighting Ground.

If the government was doing something you disagree with would you just go with the flow or would you try to make a difference and rebel against government? Both characters Katniss from the Hunger Games series and Jonathon from the book The Fighting Ground would rebel against what the government said. That is one of the many similarities they share.

One Thing that’s similar is they both share in common is they both go out to find themselves outnumbered by enemies, for Jonathon when he is hiding from the Hessians and Katniss in the first book when she is surrounded by Peeta and the other stronger people in the hunger games.

Also they both tend to not do what there told. For example In the beginning of the book Jonathon disobeys his parents when they tell him not to fight in the battle he goes out and fights anyways, Katniss when she’s in district thirteen she never followed her schedule that was put on her arm every day.

One big difference is why they are fighting. Jonathon is fighting just because he wants to know what it’s like to fight in a battle. Katniss is fighting in the hunger games because she is protecting her sister. The second time is because she is forced to. When she’s fighting in the rebellion she is fighting for revenge. Another small difference is there weapon of choice. Jonathon’s is a musket and Katniss’s is a bow and arrow.

One more difference that doesn’t make that big of a difference is that The Fighting Ground took place in the past and the Hunger Games series takes place in the future. Overall they are very similar but have one major reason, and that is what’s driving them to keep going in there fights.

SO over all they are about the same. If you watched the way they acted you might even think that they are brother and sister.

The Almost Perfect Year

The Almost Perfect Year
Chapter1

Authors Note: This is my short story for language arts there are three chapters

It was the second last day of school and Alex couldn’t believe it. He had had a great year of school. He had been named the captain of both the basketball and baseball team. Additionally he was also the only freshman to make the soccer team and start as well. Also to his surprise he has gotten through the year so far scot-free in the classrooms and had a good chance of it finishing the year that way and quite possibly on the honor roll. Or so he thought.

With a few minutes left in his last class Ms. Watson -- the much hated language arts teacher -- gave the class a twelve page persuasive essay on why striped sweaters are better than plaid sweaters. Instantly the class groaned.

“Do you want it to be fifteen pages?” Ms. Watson asked the class quickly silenced themselves. “That’s better,” Ms. Watson said, “Oh and it’s all due tomorrow unless you want to see me in summer school.”

“Can we state why plaid shirts are better than striped sweaters?” Alex’s classmate asked.

“No!” Ms. Watson yelled as if annoyed by the question

On the bus ride home Alex and Tom his best friend talked about how they hated Ms. Watson.

“This time she went too far,” Tom stated. “Is she insane? How are we supposed to finish a twelve page essay on sweaters?”

“I don't know,” I said, “do you think she’s actually trying to make us better writers or torture us until were insane just like her?”

“Well I'm not going to do it because there’s no way I can finish this,” Tom said.

“Me either so what do you want to do when we get home??”

“Well I would like to shoot some hoops with you, but I can’t. I have to go out to dinner with my grandparents.”

“Ok your loss,” Alex said. “Well it’s my stop I’ll see you tomorrow. “

“Bye,” Tom said.

When Alex got off the bus he didn’t even try to start the essay, Instead he changed into his athletic shorts and shirt and shot a hundred free throws. After this he practiced driving to the hoop and some pull up jumpers. Next he hit a bucket of balls and then threw the bucket of balls from a farther distance away to substitute long toss with a partner to improve arm strength. After this he ran two miles then followed this by practicing his dribbling for both soccer and basketball. After that he finally finished his workout by doing sprints.

After his workout he went inside and watched some TV while is mom made dinner. During dinner he told his mom that the horrid Ms. Watson had given the class a twelve page persuasive essay on why striped sweaters are better than plaid sweaters and how he wasn’t planning on even attempting on it. The first thing his mom said was, “That’s absurd. Plaid sweaters are definitely better than striped ones. Second of all, you are going to attempt it. You will not sleep until it is perfected to my approval.”

All in a Nights Hard Work
Chapter 2

While Alex was pushing his peas around his plate, he started to plan out how he was going to take down this monster of an assignment. He was thinking about trying to ask his siblings for which type of sweater they preferred and to make a big graph or something to take up space on page six and a couple pictures of plaid and striped sweaters for page one and three, but he knew in order to find enough words to write about sweaters he would need to do some research.

“May I be excused? I have to write my essay,” Alex said.

“Yes. Remember to put your dishes in the dishwasher,” said his mom.

“I will,” Alex said.

So Alex walked to the dishwasher and put his dishes in. Next he walked upstairs to the computer. He started by looking up striped sweaters at sweaters.com. He found out that striped sweaters are more comfortable because the color design is less complex therefore there is less dye color switch rubbing. Also he found out that people who wear plaid sweaters get more rashes.

Next he looked up plaid sweaters at ipsa.com (ipsa stands for international plaid sweaters association). He found out that more celebrities wore plaid sweaters. Also more plaid sweaters were bought last year than striped sweaters.

And then there was a knock at the door.

His mom then asked, “How’s it going?”

“Ok I guess,” he responded back.

His mom then asked, “Are you almost done?”

“Not even close. I haven’t started actually writing it.”

“You better hurry up,” she then responded back.

“I will, I will,” he said

After that he started to type and type for eleven and a half hours straight and when he stopped he couldn’t believe he did it but he did. He finished the horrid twelve page essay on sweaters. He quickly stapled it together and jumped in bed.

The Turn in
Chapter 3

Beep beep beep!!! Beep beep beep!!! Beep beep beep!!!

“Time For school,” His mom hollered from down the hall.

“But I just went to bed!” Said Alex

With his complaint Alex got out of bed. Took off his sleep wear and put on a plaid shirt, as if to mock Ms. Watson’s hate for them.

Right as he got his pants on his mom called up from the kitchen,” Breakfasts ready”

Ah the one thing he could look forward to, breakfast. As he walked down the stairs he could smell the bacon and the chocolate in the chocolate chip pancakes. Right when he reached the table he grabbed a piece of bacon and two pancakes and shoved them in a plastic bag to eat on the bus.

“Did you finish your report?” His mom asked

“Ya, I did”, He replied

“Make sure it’s in your backpack so you don't forget it.”, his mom said

“I will”, he said.

“Good, now hurry up. You’re going to be late” His mom said

“I will I will” he said

With that he was out the door. After he exited his house he walked out of his garage and then down the sidewalk to the bus stop. To his surprise Tom wasn’t there. Since Tom wasn’t there he had on one to talk to. Because he had no one to talk to he waited for the bus by himself .and then got on and sat down by himself. Then he ate his pancakes and bacon. When he finished his food he looked out the window till the bus arrived at school. When he got there all of his classes went well, doing your average last day of school stuff. After lunch he wondered how many people would have to go to summer school. Probably everyone but him he thought.

When he finally got to language arts Ms Watson was already making a list of people that were going to be in summer school with her. When Alex grabbed his report and started to walk her way to turn it in.

Right before he got to her she stopped him and asked, “What that is in your hands?”

“My report” he said

“Are you dumb or stupid? If you checked my language arts website like you are supposed to every day you would have noticed that you need to turn this in in a three ring binder, not stapled together all sloppily”

“Come on Ms. Watson” Alex complained.

“There’s not much I can do for you here Alex. Looks like I’ll see you in summer school Alex.” Ms Watson said

The fighting Ground Conflict response.

Authors Note: This is a response to a conflict in the beginning of a book called"The Fighting Ground"

One Conflict in my book that I am describing is whether or not Jonathon is going to go fight in the war. His dad doesn’t approve of him going to war which only drives Jonathon more. Since his father doesn’t want him to he asks his mom if he can go in to town to see if there is any new news about the British troops. She reluctantly lets him go, but makes him promise to come back after he hears the news. Jonathon goes into town seeing it as a way to get into the war. So when he gets down into town the new news is that there are redcoats coming this way and they need everyone they can get to help fend them off. Hearing this Jonathon volunteers and goes off into battle without his parents knowing.

I do not think doing this is a smart idea because Jonathon doesn’t know what war is really like and is going to get hurt. Jonathon has good intentions because all he really wants to do is please his dad when really all he needs to do to please his dad is help out around the house. Over all this conflict did not get resolved because Jonathon neither pleased nor helped the situation at home.

The Forgotten Child

Authors Note: This is a short story din the point of view of a scared little kid that's all on his own

It was a dark night right around midnight in the middle of January and Kevin was all by himself in a dark ally. He was all huddled up right next to the dumpster, teeth chattering. Every once in a while he would see a homeless guy dig through one of the many trash cans. One of the homeless guys offered him a half eaten apple, but he politely declined as if he were still at the fancy restaurant with his parents before they got into a fight and forgot him. He got scared so he said he had to go to the bathroom and when he got back they were gone. He waited for what felt like hours and then finally just got up and left. Then he wandered around the city for hours more looking for his parents and then finally collapsed giving up hope right where he is now.

The Routine

Authors Note: This short story is based off the first sentence that my Language Arts teacher gave the class to make a short story from.

“Are you crazy? Its four o’clock in the morning!” said Bill

“no its actually five o’clock in the morning. You forgot to change your
clocks for daylight savings time” said Tom.

After hearing that Bill got up out of bed and got dressed for his morning chores on the farm. Before starting them he and Tom went downstairs and ate some scrambled eggs that their mom had just made from their own chickens eggs. With the eggs they had a cup of milk and a couple strips of bacon.
After they ate they put their dishes in the sink and walked outside.

Their routines each started in chicken coop collecting the eggs and feeding the chickens next they fed the sheep, then the pigs. After that they went to the stables and fed the horses that each year competed in competition at the state fair. They ended their daily routine by milking the cows which was both Bill and Tom’s favorite job. It was their favorite because they turned it into a competition to see who could get the most milk. Today Tom was victorious.

Now that they were done with their daily chores they washed up and got on the bus for school.

Ponyboy Doesn't fit

Authors Note: This piece is an essay focused on the novel the outsiders

Ponyboy isn’t your average greaser. He doesn’t rob stores. Nor does he pick fights with other greaser gangs. He is still in school and has really good grades. Since he has such good grades he skipped a grade. Both he and Johnny don’t fit the Stereo type of the Greaser.

If you want to know how a real greaser acts just look at Dally. He is such a greaser that if you looked up the term greaser in the dictionary you would probably find a picture of him. He has killed someone before. Also he has robbed stores and carries a blade. Sometimes he even carries a gun. The only thing that Johnny and Ponyboy do on that list is carry a blade. The only reason they carry a blade is to protect themselves when the soc’s jump them like they did to Johnny and Ponyboy earlier in their lives.

There are many people who fit the actual greaser stereo type other than Dally. They are Steve and Two Bit. The reason they fit it is because they carry a blade, rob stores and pick fights. Although they pick fights and all that stuff that makes them greaser’s doesn’t make them as bad as Dally. The main thing that makes them better people is they have feelings for other people. Whereas Dally doesn’t have feelings for anybody except for Johnny who if you really know him you couldn’t not care about him. Not even Dally.

Another reason why Ponyboy and Johny don't fit the stereo type is they dont rob banks or pick fights. The main reason they get called greasers is because of where they live not because of how they act.

When Johnny said “stay golden Ponyboy” his meaning to it was don't fall into the greaser stereo type. He wants this because he knows that if Ponyboy can stay out of trouble and in school he will have a bright future. He will live the life that Darry gave up for Ponyboy.

Lebron James Vs. Derrick Rose

Authors Note:tis piece is an edited and extended version of my piece called "Who is better LeBron James or Derrick Rose?" please leave a comment telling me who you think is better.

Who is the better Nba player? LeBron James or Derrick Rose? If you ask me who is better between LeBron James and Derrick Rose I would say Derrick Rose is better. Other people might say LeBron James is better. When other people say LeBron better I think to myself why do they think this? The only answers that makes sense to me is they think LeBron is better because he is more recognized and is in more advertisements. Or they just don’t like Derrick Rose.

When people ask me why I like Rose more than LeBron I say well for starters he won the MVP award last year and led the Bulls to the playoffs basically by himself. Also I think he is better than LeBron because in his third year of playing in the NBA he won the MVP award. Whereas it took LeBron twice as long to accomplish this feat of winning it. Something that makes all that even more amazing is Derrick Rose has only been in the NBA for three years and he is still getting better.

Another thing that proves Derrick Rose is better than LeBron is the fact that LeBron only won four awards in his first two years and Rose has a total of eight. LeBron also has no loyalty. He proved this when he left his home town team the Cavaliers to team up with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade on the Miami Heat just because he thought he would have a better chance of winning an NBA title there. Where Derrick Rose almost in a similar situation in Chicago where the team has a couple of solid players like Luol Deng and Kyle Korver, but also a bunch of nobodies like like Kurt Thomas or John Lucas. He is staying in Chicago although he is only person that could be considered a person of “star” caliber on the team. Unlike LeBron Derrick is trying to make it work in Chicago and so far it has. The biggest reason that Rose is better than LeBron is because you get four quarters out of him whereas LeBron disappears in the fourth.

One reason that some people give me for LeBron being better is he won the rookie of the year award. Then I answer by saying so has Rose. Then the dumber LeBron fans say well LeBron won it first and I say well that’s because he was a rookie first. Also some people say LeBron has more blocks than Rose does, and I then say LeBron is supposed to have more blocks than Rose; he is more than a half a foot taller than him. The only reason they give me that I have to agree with is that LeBron is a better three point shooter than Rose, but if you give Rose a few years I'm sure he will improve his shot until its better than LeBron’s.

Yet even though I give them all those reasons that Derrick Rose is better they still look at me like I’m crazy for thinking he’s better than LeBron, but what I still don’t get is why after I’ve given them all those reasons is what is making them think that LeBron I better than Derrick Rose. Now just because Rose is better than LeBron it doesn’t mean LeBron is a bad player. Rose is just better and still getting better.

The Outsiders Title Analysis

Authors Note:In this piece I am Analyzing the title and figuring out what it means. If you feel that the title means something else please comment and let me know what you think it means.

The Outsiders title stands for the main characters. It stands for them because they are outsiders. They are the unpopular kids. The kids that don't have a lot of money. The kids who drop out of school and don't make it far in life.

The Outsiders Conflict Response

Authors Note:This is a short response to a question that was given to me and my class by my language arts teacher

The big conflict in this story is the fighting between the Socs and the Greasers. The reason the socs usually win the fights is because the only time they jump the greasers when they have at least double the number of greasers they jump, but things change when Johnny kills Bob the soc. Now they are going to have a big “Rumble” and if the greasers win they will no longer get jumped.

Dally

Authors Note:Dally is a character from the book the Outsiders. I am currently reading the Outsiders with my class in Language Arts

Dally is the type of person you would want on your side in a street fight. He basically does whatever he wants. Also he came from the streets of New York. He is very tough and intimidating.

Are you Proud of your Country???

Authors note: this is a response to the question Are you proud of your country.

I am proud of my country because I was born here and it has done a bunch of great things. Some examples of the great things we as a country have done are we are a free country that knows how to stick up for ourselves. Also we don't punish people for believing and worshiping certain religions. Although I am proud of my country I do not agree with everything it does or thin there is no room for improvement. There is actually a lot of room for improvement.

Haunted House

As I walk up to the ominous barn I freeze unable to move like I'm paralyzed from the neck down. If it weren’t for my friend pulling me along I’d be at home like a coward to afraid to go in the haunted house. As we enter I feel the chills running down my back. As if someone is blowing on it, we walk in to the first room and just as I think that it’s not going to be that bad. A clown jumps down from the ceiling and we all shriek out and terror. I then realize this is going to be the worst night of my life

Casey at The Bat

Casey is the type of person who likes to show off. Although Him showing off is not an issue on most days Today it was. He let two perfectly good strikes go by and then on the third pitch he swings and misses. If he swung at the first two pitches he could have gotten an extra base hit or a home run even. I could understand if they were bad pitches, but they were strikes. As good as they come. Then when he was down in the count with an 0-2 count he swings and misses to lose the ball game.

Annoying things

A lot of things in this world are annoying. One of these things that I would like to call annoying is my brother. He is annoying because he tells on me for things I didn’t do and he pretends that he gets hit all the time which gets me in trouble. Another thing I find annoying is when people when people won’t leave you alone, but what I don’t get is why they won’t leave you alone. Some people might say that they won’t leave you alone because they just like you that much others will say that they just like to annoy you. Whatever their reason is don’t you just hate it when people annoy you?

Game Seven

Authors Note: this writing piece is a sequal to Wesley Johnson's NBA title

In the first quarter Wesley man handled the Heat with twenty points and a few assists too witch put his team up by ten points. In the second quarter Wesley came out to rest and that’s when the Heat came back and tied it all up at forty five. During half Wesley knew that he would need to score a lot more than usual if his team wanted to win. So in the third quarter Wesley was scoring both from the three point line and by dunking the basketball. And right when Wesley stole the ball from LeBron and dunked it LeBron came up from behind and tackled him. When LeBron tackled Wesley he broke his arm. As Wesley came down the referee ejected LeBron. When LeBron was ejected he tore off his jersey and walked back to the locker room. Wesley was also escorted back to the locker room

Everybody thought that the Timberwolves had no chance because Wesley Johnson had broken his arm. So now the Timberwolves fans were not very hopeful that they could win the NBA championship and the Heat picked a dirty way to win the NBA championships and the heat fans were cheering their heads off because they knew that they have a really good chance in winning the NBA championships, but then something amazing happened and the Timberwolves fans started cheering.

Wesley was walking out of the locker room with a cast on his left arm and ready to play with about a minute and thirty seconds left on the clock the Timberwolves were down by five. When Wesley’s coaches asked him are you sure you want to do this? I mean you look like you’re in a lot of pain. Wesley responded by saying I am but were too close to winning we can't give up now. So is coach put him in.

Right when he got in his teammate got him the ball and he nailed a three and then on Defense Wesley came up and blocked a shot by Dwayne Wade and went down the other way. He had the ball at the top of the key and is going to run isolation with ten seconds to go on the clock, but he didn’t know if he should try to drive it and tie the game in over time or shoot a three to try and win it. So he is at the top of the key with the seconds ticking away five, four, three, two, one and as he sees the One on the clock he shoots a three to win the game and it goes in. The crowd went Crazy.

Wesley Johnson's NBA Title

Authors Note: this writing piece on how I think Wesley Johnson will get his NBA title. And there will be a sequel

It’s the beginning of the NBA Finals and it’s Wesley Johnson’s Timberwolves vs. The Heat and there Big Three. Wesley Johnson is confident that his team has a good chance of winning the NBA title with his abilities to score the majority of his team’s points. And the Heat are confident for multiple reasons. One of them is the fact that they are undefeated in the playoffs so far and the Timberwolves have no one good except for Wesley Johnson

In game one and two despite Wesley Johnson’s efforts his team crushed and the heat showed no class or respect by just chucking up threes while being up by twenty with little time to go game one and two. In the press conferences after game two Wesley said the Heat have just pissed me off and they should come ready for a physical game three.

In game three Wesley scored a career high fifty seven points and his energy got Chris Bosh scared of him. This knocked him off his game. Dwayne Wade said he was surprised with Wesley’s energy and LeBron admitted that Wesley Johnson out played him and that he would need to do better next game if he wanted to control the beast we all know as Wesley Johnson.

In game four the Timberwolves won by a score of 100-82 and LeBron James got hurt trying to take a charge from Wesley Johnson and he fell down on his tailbone and bruised it. In game five despite LeBron being out the Heat won in overtime 106-100. After the game when a reporter asked Wesley Johnson what he was thinking now after game five. He said that it was do or die time for them if we lose we go home. If we win we will push a game seven. In game six Wesley put his team on his back once again and had an amazing 61 points after the game in the press conference Wesley said that the fans should expect a show in game seven.

Wesley Johnson

Wesley Johnson is my favorite basketball player in the world. He just recently finished his rookie year in the NBA. He was the fourth overall pick in the draft and was drafted to the Minnesota Timberwolves. This year Wesley Johnson has not exactly stepped up to the expectations in Minnesota. I think this because he only averages about ten points a game, five rebounds a game, and three assists a game but in about three or four years Wesley Johnson will be one of the league’s premier scorers averaging about thirty points a game. So basically what I’m saying is pay close attention to Wesley Johnson because he can and will be the next Michael Jordon and way better than LeBron.

Jerry Stackhouse singing the National Anthom

Last year Jerry Stackhouse the SG for the Milwaukee Bucks sang the National anthem in game five of the playoffs in the first round against the Atlanta Hawks. The although the Bucks were the under dogs in the series being the fifth seed and Atlanta being the fourth seed they were able to stretch the series through all seven games. The Jerry Stackhouse singing the national anthem I think was the highlight of the series. I was one of the lucky ones who got to experience him sing the national anthem live. I think him singing he anthem helped his performance that night  because he scored eighteen points and nine of his points were from three pointers.

The Hundreth Dove Essay

It was a blistering hot summer day in a big old forest of old England where a fowler named Hugh was out to catch one hundred doves. He left his house right before dawn with a big net that he would catch the doves in from there he would take the doves back to his little house which was by the edge of the forest go to bed and take the doves that he caught to the King as soon as he woke up. Little did he know that he was going to run into some trouble.
He didn’t think he would run into trouble because he was the best fowler in the kingdom. A lot of people think they are really good at whatever it is they do. They think they’re so good that they won’t ever make a mistake and because they think that they tend to have a bad work ethic. It doesn’t matter what you do for a living because if you have a bad work ethic you won’t be the best you can be. And if you aren’t the best you can be then you are selling yourself short.
Selling yourself short is especially bad in sports because if you sell yourself short you’re not doing the best you can do which in some cases may cause you to lose your spot on the team. Or in the real world if you sell yourself short it could cause you not get that promotion you thought that you had in the bag, But in worse cases it could get you fired and if you get fired your life will be far less pleasurable because when you get fired you don’t have a job that is paying you. You can’t pay for basic necessities like groceries and at times you can’t pay for things like groceries you have to borrow money that you probably won’t be able to pay back.
That is why you shouldn’t expect thing to go just the way you want just because you’re the best you have to be a hard worker and do whatever it was that you did that got you to be the best. Just like Hugh did. Every time he went out to catch the birds he was very careful and checked to see if his net had any loose strings and if it did he would fix them.

Flight

Flight is a short story about a poor family and my question for you is how would the family, who had recently lost their father today or back in the time of where this story took place. And why would this family of four with their mom and her nine teen year old son at the helm of the family do better or worse today than back when this story took place

I believe they would have a better chance of surviving today, because with all of the technology today they probably would have had a better chance of saving their father’s life when he was bitten in the chest by a snake. Where back then with their wealth the best they could do is stand by his side for his last minutes of life and hope for the best. This in almost all cases back then wasn’t enough.

Another thing that would make life easier today just like the better healthcare is instead of the mother in the family having to ask her nineteen year old son to make an overnight trip into town to go pick up medicine she could just get in the car or on a bus and ride to the nearest Walgreens to pick up the medicine. Pepe would have also enjoyed life more today because he is a very lazy individual according to John Steinbeck.

Although he starts out as a lazy person Pepe really develops throughout the story to become a hard working individual just like his father and so I have another question to ask where would this family lead a easier life today or back when this story had taken place.

Cooperstown New York

Cooperstown is a city in New York that is home to the baseball hall of fame and it is also home to a baseball park called Field of Dreams. The field of Dreams has 27 baseball fields. The fields in Cooperstown are just like the fields the pros play on just smaller. All of which have lights on them so you can play a game at night if you needed to. Another thing it has 108 barracks (barracks are like little one room cabins with only beds in them) he reason The Field of Dreams has barracks is because it hosts a baseball tournament every week of the summer. And the baseball teams get to sleep in the barracks and eat in the giant food tent. I believe there is a couple problems with the food tent if you ask me. The problems are the food tent are the food doesn’t taste that good, you have to wait in long lines to get your food and if you need butter instead of giving you normal butter. They give you liquid butter and by the time you get back to your seat it has solidified and looks really disgusting. The field of dreams also has about fifty batting cages and a big field that teams can practice fielding in. that is what the field of dreams is like.

Raymond's Run

Raymond’s run is a short story written by Toni Cade Bambara and it all started on a nice sunny morning where a girl called squeaky and her big troubled brother named Raymond went out for a walk. This morning Squeaky is practicing her breathing exercises breathing in and out on counts of seven. While she is doing this her brother Raymond is pretending to drive a stage coach driver. When all of a sudden these mean girls came walking by to mess with squeaky and Raymond while they were walking down Broadway. After the girls called them names and tried to intimidate them which didn’t work. It actually made squeaky more determined to beat them in the track meet that’s coming up soon. She knew that she was going to win because she faster and better than the other girls and no matter what they said they wouldn’t change her mind.

In the story like I said before the author Toni Cade Bambara is trying to tell you that you can win or do whatever it is that you want to achieve if you put your mind to it. For example let’s say that you’re a poor free throw shooter. One thing you could do is set goal. If you have trouble with free throws your goal would to make a certain amount of free throws in a game. Now that you have a goal set you have to work to achieve that goal. One way you could achieve this goal is to practice by shooting at least a hundred free throws a day and keep track of how many you make out of a that hundred or more free throws. He is also telling the readers that you shouldn’t let people tell you that you’re not good enough because you are you just have to keep working to get better. This is one thing that the great Michael Jordan knows and tries to tell others that. Just because you don’t make a select team that you tried out for it doesn’t mean that you’re not good. It just means that you have to work that much harder.

That’s what Michael Jordon told himself when he got cut from his high school basketball team. He also told himself that when he first came into the NBA and people told him that he was a bad shooter and defender. When he was told that he responded by saying, “Now that I know my weaknesses I am going to take them and work on them until they become my strengths.” And he did that until he was known as one of the league’s greatest shooters and defenders. Squeaky is very similar because she too practices her running and although she is told that she isn’t going to win the next track meet she doesn’t listen to them she just ignores them and just keeps practicing.

And just like Michael Jordon after he completes his many goals he gives back to the community by running basketball camps. Squeaky’s way of giving back was she was going to help Raymond take up the sport of running she was going to help him on his running form and his breathing. And that is why you shouldn’t listen to people that telling you that you aren’t good enough.

The Moustache

The Moustache is a short story written by Robert Cormier and it is in the tragic mode of literature. There are many signs that tell me that it is in the tragic mode of literature. One sign is it follows the tragic plotline. In this short story the Author Robert Cormier tried to express to his audience that little things like a moustache are all it takes for people to bring back memories.

It brings back memories of when you were with someone special like a husband or a dad or mom. As I said before one sign that made me think it followed the tragic mode of literature as I said before it followed the tragic plotline. It started in minor conflict. The conflict is in the beginning when his mom tries to get him to shave his moustache off because he was going to visit his grandma who is living in an assisted living center. She thought his grandma wasn’t going to recognize him because she was having a hard time recognizing people and had never seen mike with a moustache before..

She was having a hard time recognizing people because she is 73 years old and is suffering from arteriosclerosis. This is a chronic disease that is characterized by abnormal thickening and hardening of the arterial wall. The rise to power in this short story is when the main character Mike is recognized as Mike by his grandma. The tragic flaw is when he realized that his grandma didn’t actually recognize him. His grandma actually thought that he was his grandpa who was also named Mike.

Although His grandfather has already passed away his grandma forgot that and Mike’s moustache made him look like his grandpa. That is the tragic flaw because he didn’t shave off his moustache and because of that his grandma didn’t recognize him. The death symbolism is in the end of the story when he shaves off his moustache and like I said before the smallest of things can bring back memories. Even something as small as mikes moustache.

Snakehead analysis

Snakehead is a book written by Anthony Horowitz. It is the sixth book in a series of seven. In the series the main character Alex Rider the teenage James Bond as some would say. Is recruited by MI6 and saves the world. Although Alex doesn’t like his he is very good at it and keeps on getting tricked into working for MI6 the CIA and ASIS. The morale of the story basically is you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

For example what Alex is putting his mind to is saving the world. Since he believes in himself he does a good job at it and if you put your mind to being a good athlete you will become a good athlete if you work hard at it by let’s say practicing extra long and hard, working out, or you could even watch the pros of a certain sport and try to say what they do right and wrong. It’s the same thing If you want to do good in school to get better grades you can do extra work like practice problems, study for tests, and ask teachers for help.

Another example is in the book Alex is determined to find more out about his family because he doesn’t know much about them. So he took an assignment just to try to get to know his godfather Ash. It’s the same as in a more common situation of you have a that you barely see and don’t know much about and they invite you and your immediate family for dinner and since you don’t know them very much and want to get to know them, but you don’t want to go you go anyways just so you get to know them better. Just like Alex did he didn’t want to go on the mission but he did anyways just to meet and get to know his godfather better.

Like I said before and the author is trying to express throughout the series if you put your mind to it you can do anything. You could become a lawyer, a basketball player and maybe you could even save the world like Alex.

What Will the World be like in a Hundred Years?

In a hundred years I think that in a hundred years everybody will drive in flying cars that run on electricity. And houses will be made of metal. I also think that in a hundred years inflation will be so bad that something like a candy bar will cost about fifty dollars. Another thing is that I think that since people will be using flying cars I think that the speed limits will be increased to about 130 miles an hour.

the big game

The super bowl is the NFL’s Championship game. The best teams of that year play in it. They play on the grandest stage some say. It’s what they work so hard for every year. Everyone’s number one goal is to make it to the super bowl and once you get there your goal is to win the super bowl. Another thing that’s special to the super bowl that other championships don’t have is super funny commercials. When your team is in the super bowl like the Packers are this year you won’t stop hearing stuff about your team until a couple weeks after the super bowl. It will really start to annoy you. It’s really fun to watch the super bowl and as baseball great

Reggie Jackson once said,” The only thing I don’t like about playing on the big stage is you cant watch yourself play”

snow days

Snow days are the best days in winter because I can invite my friends over to my house and we can go sledding. Or once the plow comes we can build tunnels in the snow banks they make. Like last time when I made a tunnel It was so big that we could climb through it. My goal is o make a hole next snow day that we can sled through. To make a hole all you need to do is grab a shovel or anything that will help you dig and start on one side of the bank and then start on one side of the snow bank and dig all the way to the other side. Once you have it made make it wide enough to the size that you can crawl through it.

Deep Water

The short story by William O. Douglas had vivid description. For example in the beginning when he said he didn’t want to show his cold bare skinny legs he not only described the way they felt he also described the way they looked which gave you a better description of how he felt and looked. Also he described the teenager who pushed him in the water looked. He described him as a big bruiser of a boy, probably eighteen or nineteen which not only told you he was big and strong he also told us how old he was about 18 or 19. In this short story William O. Douglas is trying to tell us that we can overcome our fears.
For example if you are scared of heights you can overcome that fear if you just work at it by maybe going somewhere higher every day or hike up a small mountain in your free time . No matter what fear you have you can always ask someone you trust. So basically what he is saying is if you are scared of something you shouldn’t avoid it just. You should try to overcome it. That was a life lesson that it took him years to learn and because it took him years to learn he wrote this short story so you wouldn’t make the same mistakes that he did. Another thing this book symbolizes is what you can accomplish
Overcoming your fears is one thing, but if you have a fear in basketball like going to the free throw line to shoot free throws because you miss them all the time. If you work on it you can make it your strength so you like going to the line instead of fearing it. That is something he did. He used to fear going into the water because he couldn’t swim but as he got older he learned to swim and eventually liked going into the water.
So in the short story “Deep Water” William O. Douglas shows good description when he describes not only himself, but also the big teenager when he called him a big bruiser of a boy. So over all William O. Douglas is just trying to tell us that we can overcome our fears.

the pearl essay

The Pearl is a Book Written by John Steinbeck and is about a poor indigenous Mexican family. The family consists of three people Kino, Juana, and Coyotito. In the beginning of the book the author describes Kino as a strong young man with black hair and a thin mustache. Also he described him as impatient. He described Juana as a nice patient and independent young women.

In the beginning of the book John Steinbeck stated that Kino and the rest of the villagers were surprised that Juana asked Kino to bring their baby Coyotito their baby who just got stung by a scorpion to the doctor seeing that she was a very independent young women. When Kino and Juana found out that the doctor wouldn’t help their baby Kino expressed his anger by punching the wall. The next day they went out on their boat to go pearling and that day Kino found the Pearl of the world.

When Kino found the pearl of the world he got very paranoid because everyone wanted it even the priest wanted to take the pearl from him. During the night someone tried to steal the pearl. The day he went to town to sell it the buyers in the crowd all ready had it set up to cheat him. He called them dirty cheaters I and I would agree with him they were being cheaters. They were just trying to cheat him out of his money. After he called the cheaters he left the auction and prepared to leave in the middle of the night Kino gathered up some food and was preparing the long journey to the capital to sell the pearl.

When they stop to rest Kino warns Juana what plants she can and can’t touch. When he comes back he sees that someone has killed his boat. At the end of the book Kino finally realizes that the pearl has brought nothing but trouble. For example Kino and Juana lost their boat and also their son Coyotito was killed. So he throws the peal into the golf.

The Pearl

After finishing the book The Pearl, by John Steinbeck I saw a life lesson in the book. The lessen was you can't turn your back on anyone because at any time no matter what is going on you have to know whether you can count on someone when it really matters. At the end when Coyote dies Juana has Kino’s back and when Kino throws the Pearl in the Gulf Juana is there helping him through it. Then to get through the long journey climbing through mountains going through long paths struggling to find water Kino is there helping Juana and coyotito fight through it. Also I noticed that John Steinbeck has his moments where there the book is very dry, but also had some very exciting parts. John Steinbeck has a way of writing that can be boring when you are reading some parts that could be really exciting. Over all I didn’t like the book because there was so much talk about magic, the evil, and the good spirits. Also I didn’t like it because in the book John Steinbeck talked about Kino and Juana not knowing whether the God or gods were real

Erlenmeyer flask

Erlenmeyer flasks are often used to heat liquids with a Bunsen burner. For that purpose, the flask is usually placed on a ring held to a ring stand or a ring clamp. A pad is usually placed between the ring and the flask to prevent the flames from touching the glass.

Celsius

Celsius is a scale and unit of measurement for temperature. It is named after the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius who developed a similar temperature scale two years before his death. The degree Celsius (°C) can refer to a specific temperature on the Celsius scale

bunsen burner

A Bunsen burner, named after Robert Bunsen, is a common piece of lab equipment that produces a single gas flame, which is used for heating and sterilizing. The device in use today safely burns a continuous stream of a flaming gas like natural gas.

pitri dish

A Petri dish is a shallow glass or plastic cylindrical lidded dish that biologists use to culture cells or small moss plants. It was named after German bacteriologist named Julius Richard Petri who invented it when working as an assistant. Glass Petri dishes can be reused by sterilization for example, in an autoclave or by dry heating in a hot air oven at 160°C for one hour.
