One Nashty Poem

Authors Note: I got bored one day in Language Arts so decided to write a poem on Steve Nash. I decided to write it on Steve Nash because of a video I saw on you tube by Paul Brogan.

Steve Nash is in the NBA
Boy he sure knows how to play
He'll soon be in the Hall of Fame
His name will go by DR. J.

soccer was once his game
But now he thinks that's a bit lame

He isn't very tall
But he sure can shoot the ball

When you play him there's no time to rest
Because he is the very best

Even though he's Short
He still rules the court

Steve Nash is key
If you wanna beat the big three

Orlando's superman puts on a show night after night
but Steve Nash is his kryptonite

The Knicks may have Jeremy Lin
But against Steve Nash he'll never win

Kobe may be clutch
But Steve Nash is just too much

The Pacers may have Danny Granger
but Steve will put their title hopes in Danger

The Hawks may have Teague
But Nash is the best in the league

OKC may have KD
But the OKC crowd even agrees... Steve Nash is MVP

The Sixers have Iguodala
But Steve Nash is better if he uses his magic powa

Dallas may have the German
But Nash is their burden

The Nets Chris Humpries just lost his ring
But Steve Nash is about to get his bling

The Grizzlies may have O.J. Mayo
But unlike Nash he's muy feyo(very ugly in spanish)

The Clippers may have Chris Paul
But Nash would steal his ball

The Bulls may have Carlos Boozer
But unlike Nash he's major loser

The Bobcats may have Kemba Walker
but as the record shows hes just a talker

The Timberwolves may have Flynn
but unlike Nash he can't put it in

The Bucks may have Monta Ellis
but of Steve Nash he is Jealous

The Warriors may have Stephen Curry
But Steve Nash will win without any worry

Deception

How do you like it when a good friend of yours plays a trick on you? I like many others dislike it for the vast majority of the time. This time however I was deceived into thinking that The Lottery was about a person winning a bunch of money, but instead the winner of this lottery met a very painful death.

The theme of The Lottery is deception. There are many examples of deception throughout the story. The first example of Deception is the title itself. The title is a form of deception because when you here the Lottery you think that someone is going to win a lot of money, but in this case you do not want to win the Lottery. The winner will of this lottery is stoned to death because it is believed that this tradition will bring a good harvest.

Another example of deception in this story is the mood of the townspeople in the short story. In the beginning of the story people were very happy. The adults were talking just as if it was a normal day. As the grownups were talking the kids “eventually made a great pile of stones in one corner of the square and guarded it against the raids of the other boys” It seemed like the kids were just passing time before they started the lottery, but they were actually gathering rocks to throw at the unlucky winner of the lottery. Even when the mood changed into more seriousness I thought that they were just anxious to see who was going to become rich not who was going to be stoned to death.

The reason I didn’t dislike the deception in The Lottery was because it came as a surprise to me. Whereas when a friend tricks me he makes me look silly which I don't like.  The surprise was the winner of this tradition called the lottery was I thougt people wanted to win because they would become rich. I did not foresee them being stoned to death.

Why Lebron's Better than Durant

Authors Note: This piece is a contradiction to the piece KD vs. LBJ if you want to see the original piece I am contradicting go to http://www.ryanlovesmilkandcookies.blogspot.com/2012/04/kd-vs-lbj.html. If you want to fully comprehend the information presented to you in this essay then please go to this link and read the KD vs. LBJ essay.

With five seconds on the clock your team down by two, the crowd holds their breath in anticipation. In the most important game of the year, a crucial game seven of the finals, who would you give the ball to? Kevin Durant or LeBron James? I myself along with anybody else with a brain would pick the best player in the league and future MVP LeBron James.

There are many things that are wrong with my colleague's essay “KD vs. LBJ”. First of all when your team is down by two with ten seconds on the clock, the crowd doesn’t roar with excitement; they hold their breath sitting on the edge of their seats in fear of their team might lose. Second of all why would you give it to Durant? If you give it to him, you know what he's doing… He is going shoot the ball. Knowing this you double or triple him and play good defense. With LeBron you not only need to double him but also play good defense off the ball because unlike Durant, LeBron is smart enough to pass it when he is covered.

I don't know how thoroughly my colleague looked at what came up on his Google search because when I searched “how many buzzer beaters has Kevin Durant made” the only games that came up was one against the Mavericks on December twenty-ninth, another six days ago against the Mavericks, and then it also shows the Milk and Cookies blog. So he's not as clutch as you think. Also if you think LeBron doesn’t perform in the fourth quarter, I’m going to call you what you are, a Liar! Just a few weeks ago LeBron scored seventeen straight points in the fourth quarter to narrowly escape a brutal upset from the Nets, and if you think the only reason LeBron scored as much as he did is because they were playing the Nets (one of the worst teams in the league), you're wrong. He also dropped another seventeen points against the Knicks in the fourth quarter during the playoffs.

The reason LeBron passed up the shot earlier this season is because he was playing smart (something the author of the milk and cookies blog says he doesn’t do). The reason it was smart and showed his basketball IQ was because when you are being double teamed there are three decisions you can make. The worst of the three would be to panic and throw the ball away. The next option you have is to put up a bad shot that usually doesn’t go in. The best of the three options is to find your teammate who was being guarded by the defender who came to double you. LeBron chose the third option because he used to and still does trust his teammate to make that shot when it counts. Also if Durant tried to do his so called “shimmy” on LeBron, I can tell you right now that LeBron would swat that ball out of the gym.

Another inconsistency with the “KD vs. LBJ” essay is that the author said that Kevin Durant is smarter and has a higher basketball IQ because he went to college. The only reason LeBron didn’t go to college is because he needed the money from an NBA contract to help his mom pay the bills. He did this because he loves his mom. Even if Kevin Durant went to college, he only went to college for one year, and all that year did was help him get almost as smart as LeBron. LeBron definitely has the higher basketball IQ.

Even if it says that Durant is smarter in NBA2K12, if you simulate a season, it always has LeBron’s team winning. Which, if you look at the big picture, that is all that matters, winning it all and getting the ring. Some may say this is because he has two great players in and Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade; but Durant has equally great players Russell Westbrook, James Harden, and Serge Ibaka. Also I believe Durant’s team has a better bench.

And let’s not get ahead of ourselves here, Last time I checked Durant had just as many rings as LeBron… zero. So if you ask me it’s a little early to be talking about rings, but if we’re going to talk about who’s gonna have more rings you can just say LeBron James because we both know that he is going to have more than Kevin Durant. After LeBron wins the NBA Finals this year the doubters will start to see just how great LeBron is and then the chain effect that has started years ago will keep on going.

Also the author of the “KD vs. LBJ” essay may be right about the wingspan differential but he was wrong about the height difference between LeBron and Durant . Durant is only one inch taller not two. Also every star has been dunked on over the years. Even the NBA great Shaquille O’Neil and All Star Dwight Howard have been slammed on. One thing he doesn’t mention though is that LeBron has about fifteen pounds more than him and is stronger which helps him back people down in the post so he doesn’t have to shoot the off balanced fade away shots that Kevin Durant is forced to put up due to his lack of strength. This also probably the reason that Durant hasn’t been dunked on by LeBron because he is too much of a girl to take the contact from LeBron's two hundred-fifty pound frame when LeBron comes driving into the lane.

There is a fairly large gap between LeBron's greatness and Durant’s near greatness right now, but not only is LeBron the better player, but he is definitely going to be this year’s MVP.

Seperation

Authors Note: This essay is a prediction of what I think will happen next in my book Fallen Angels.

Have you ever been separated from your friends when you are out late at night, and been forced to find your way back to them with only the coldness of the night to comfort you? I predict that Peewee and Perry will become very familiar with this feeling later in the book. The only difference is the stakes have been heightened for them. They are in the middle of the Vietnam War and they will have to find their way back to base without being found by the Vietcong.

One reason I think that Perry and Peewee will get separated is because they are good friends, but don't really mix well with the rest of their group. This makes them more likely to get separated together because in most books when people get broken off from the main group they are usually are best friends or hate each other. Since Perry doesn’t hate anybody if he gets separated it will probably be with Peewee.

Another reason they will most likely get separated because they don't always do as they’re told. Also they are scared of being killed. Since they are scared of being killed they may run off and flee the scene if they think they are going to die. Or if they thought the army life was so hard and dangerous that they needed to run away they would probably tell each other and run away to the nearest city or village.

There are many reasons that Perry and Peewee could run away. No matter how they get separated in the end it’s all the same. it’s just them and the cold cruel Vietnam Jungle .

Party in Canada

Authors Note: this is a parody of the song Party in the USA that I made with two of my classmates.

So I jumped on the Plane heading to Canada
Welcome to the land of maple syrup, whoa can we eat it all
Jumped on the dogsled, here I am for the first time
I look to the left, and see a gun toting French mime

This is all so crazy, everybody keeps on saying Aye
My tummy’s turnin and I'm feeling kind of homesick
Too much snow so I want to leave today
That’s when my pocket radio played my favorite tune

And the Beethoven was on
And the Beethoven was on
And the Beethoven was on

So I put my hands up, they’re playin my song
The Yetis fly away
I'm noddin my head like “Aye”
Movin my hips like “Aye”
Got my hands up, they’re playin my song

I have the urge to say Aye!
It’s a party in Canada Aye!
It’s a party in Canada Aye!

Got tavern in my dog sled
Eskimos are lookin at me now
Like whos that chick rockin the beaver skin
Shes gotta be from outta town

So hard with peeps not around me
Its defenetly not an American party
Cause all I see is beaver pelts
I guess I didn’t get the memo

My tummy’s turnin
and I'm feeling kind of homesick
Too much snow so I want to leave today
That’s when my pocket radio played my favorite tune

And the JB song was on
And the JB song was on
And the JB song was on

So I put my hands up, they’re playin my song
The Yetis fly away
I'm noddin my head like “yeah”
Movin my hips like “yeah”

Got my hands up, they’re playin my song
And now I'm gonna be okay Aye!
It’s a party in Canada Aye!
It’s a party in Canada

I feel like hoppin on a flight Back to the U.S. tonight
Something stops me every time,
every time The DJ plays my song
and I feel alright

So I put my hands up, they’re playin my song
The Yetis fly away
I'm noddin my head like “yeah”
Movin my hips like “yeah”

Got my hands up, they’re playin my song
And now I'm gonna be okay Aye!
It’s a party in Canada Aye!
It’s a party in Canada

The "Free" Blacks

Authors Note: this is a piece is about how free the free blacks in the north actually were In the North the blacks were free, but my question is how free were they? I believe that they were only partially free. The reason I think that they are only partially free is because they have some of the rights as white people did, but not all of them. Some political freedoms that about half of the free blacks in the north had was voting. The reason only about half of them had this right is because some states gave blacks the right to vote and some of them didn’t. No blacks had the right to serve on a jury until 1860 when Massachusetts gave this right to the blacks. Blacks had next to no social freedoms in the north. They were not allowed to mingle with whites, be in a jury (except for Massachusetts after 1860), attend their churches, go to the same concert halls, marry white girls, or sit at the same table as whites. One right they did have was to own property. Also they could pay taxes. The black community almost had the same rights as the white community. They were allowed to own property and get a job. Although they could acquire a job not many whites would hire you if you were black. It didn’t matter if you were the smartest and most skilled human in the world because if you were black they viewed you almost like an alien, a weird looking creature from mars.

Peewee's Fatal Flaw

Authors Note: This piece is a character description on Peewee. He is one of the characters in the book I am reading, Fallen Angels. Peewee walked into the room, over confident in his prankster sort of way. His eyes scanning the crowd looking for his so called “target”. Once he found his “target” he performed his mediocre trick on the six foot six inch brick wall of a man he decided to pick on. His trick merely annoyed the brick wall making him madder than before. He shot up from his chair like a speeding bullet ready to charge like a bull. The brick wall was getting ready to beat the crap out of Peewee, but luckily for Peewee’s sake the Lieutenant came in and told them that they had to go on patrol. The Brick wall gave Peewee the death stare as if to inform him that his time was coming. When we got back to camp Peewee hid behind some bushes while we waited for Johnson (the brick wall) to get back from the chopper into camp so he could get a couple cheap shots in before Johnson beat his sorry butt. If you asked me he was a little bit scared, but I don't blame him. He has a man like a rhino for an enemy.

The Sea of Monsters Prediction

In the book The Sea of Monsters Percy tries to get the Golden Fleece and save his friend Grover from a giant Cyclops. Percy needs to get the Golden Fleece back because the camps magical borders have been poisoned. I believe that Ares the god of war poisoned the borders because the only thing protecting Percy from monsters in the outside world is the borders. The reason Ares would do this is because in book one Ares told Percy “watch out, I will get you” right after Percy beat him in a sword fight. As for finding the Golden Fleece and his friend Grover I think they will find them both and live happily ever after… for now. I think this because there are three more books in the series.

Percy Jackson Charactor Analysis

Authors Note: this piece is an essay I wrote for Language Arts. The character I chose to use was Percy Jackson from the book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan(you should read the book its very good) to help understand the essay you may want to read the book.

Percy Jackson is an interesting character. In the book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan the main character Percy Jackson is somebody that changes a lot. He started as an outcast who gets picked on daily and becomes the Demigod (a demigod is somebody with a normal human parent and one god parent) that everyone wants to be and looks up to.

Percy’s change didn’t happen overnight though; it took him the course of the book for his true colors to show. Beginning the book off, Percy has a negative view on life; he thinks that thanks to his ADHD and dyslexia he's going to amount to nothing at life. Little does he know at the time that these two things are his greatest strengths. He finds this out later in the book when he says “I now understand what Annabeth had said about ADHD keeping you alive in battle. I was wide awake, noticing every little detail”. Another thing that that changes throughout the book is the fact that Percy gets stronger and starts to realize that he is indeed very important, so important that Percy is once told that “The Gods have big plans for him”.

Throughout the book he makes a bunch a few friends that could be of great use to him in the future when he tries to defeat Luke. Unfortunately he makes an enemy out of someone you definitely don't want to be enemies with, Ares the god of war. Percy Jackson is quite possibly the most important Demigod since Hercules.

“What will happen at the summer solstice?” Analysis

Authors Note: this piece is a piece in witch i am analyzing

Annebeth asked Percy Jackson “What will happen at the summer solstice?” when he was slipping in and out of consciousness after he defeated the Minotaur in the beginning of the book. She asked this Question because she knew something big was going to happen on Olympus on the summer solstice little did she or Percy know that the big thing happening was going to be the start of a war. The only way to stop the war would be Percy Annebeth and Grover returning Zeus’s Master bolt by the summer solstice.

Percy Jackson speech

Authors Note: This piece is a speech i wrote and presented to my class.

Percy Jackson is the main character in the book The Lightning Thief and throughout the book he changes a lot. For example in the beginning of the book he is a normal twelve year old kid who has ADHD and dyslexia. He has been kicked out of six schools in the past six years. Percy is what some may call a problem child. He has a negative view in life thinking that he will never amount to anything important. Nor does he believe in the ancient Greek Gods in which plays a big role in his life.

But by the end of the book he realized that he is the son of Poseidon and is a Demigod (a demigod is a person who has one parent who is a god and one who is a normal human being). He is actually a rather special demigod because his dad Poseidon is one of the big three gods. This makes him special because he has more powers than normal Demigods. Percy also has realized that he is very important and that the gods have plans for him.

Kobe vs. LeBron

Authors Note: this is an essay where I explain why I believe that Kobe is better than LeBron

Who is the better NBA player? LeBron James or Kobe Bryant? If you ask me who is better I would say Kobe Bryant is better. Other people might say LeBron James is better. When other people say LeBron is better I think to myself why do they think this? The only answers that makes sense to me is they think LeBron is better because they are Kobe “haters”. Or think that LeBron is better because his team had more success last year.

One thing I usually say to Kobe “haters” is that Kobe is a better shooter. Also he has helped his team go all the way on multiple occasions (five to be exact) Another reason why is he has stayed loyal to his team no matter how frustrated he got with his team’s lack of success. One of these success droughts occurred right away when he first got drafted to the Lakers back in ’97. His team got knocked out in the first round or second round of the playoffs three years in a row despite being heavy favorites each of the years. The other drought was after their ’00 -’02 three-peet. It lasted five years until they finally struck gold again in ‘09 and ’10 winning back to back titles.

Additionally after his ’09 season Kobe started getting compared to greats like Michel Jordan. Whereas the majority of the ESPN journalists say that LeBron needs to win a couple of titles to his resume before they start comparing him to Michael Jordan. Some people might say that LeBron is a better because he is an outside shooter, but I then follow up by saying that if LeBron is such a better three point shooter how come Kobe has a better career three point field goal percentage? Others say LeBron is a better dunker. Then I ask them then how come Kobe has won the dunk contest and LeBron hasn’t?

Both Kobe and LeBron are future hall of famers and they both practically wrote the record book. All I'm saying is Kobe Bryant is one step above LeBron on the ladder of excellence. Even after reading this some people think LeBron is better. All I can tell them now is look at Kobe’s rings.

A Superstar Among Us

Authors Note: This is a journal entry for language where I had to use a prompt. The prompt I chose was “Her breath caught as she saw him standing there, sunlight dancing in his eyes.”

Her breath caught as she saw him standing there, sunlight dancing in his eyes. She was staring at the one and only Travis Leslie playing a pickup game at the park. He was playing the same man that she always saw practicing in the morning while she walked to work. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing; her favorite NBA player was playing basketball at the park against some random person he saw at the park. Instead of continuing her walk she sat down on a bench and started watching them play. She saw that there was no way that the person Travis was playing couldn’t be some random dude off the street cause he was actually keeping it close against Leslie. Travis had only out scored him by about seven or eight since she showed up.

Dead Men’s Path Retelling

The story started when a man named Michael Obi got the job of principle at a new school. After he got the job things seemed to be going well. His wife was making the school a garden and it looked rather good. It was perfect until he saw a villager walk through a path that crossed thee school grounds. He then asked a teacher why a villager was walking through his school grounds. The teacher told him that it was an old path made by the villagers and that they don’t use it that often. Michael then went over and blocked off the path with a fence. He then followed it up with barbed wire.

When the tribe leader found out he came to the school and asked Michael to take down the sign but due to his cultural ignorance and fear of getting a bad report from his supervisor he said no. A women giving birth died and the villagers believed it was because the path was blocked. They thought the spirits were angry. To try and mend their relationship with the spirits they tore down the sign trashed the garden and even tore down part of the school. It just so happened that his supervisor came in that day and gave him a nasty report.

Gameday Drive

Authors Note: In this piece I am describing a scene that happened over my Christmas break. It takes place on the day of new years eve

When I woke up on New Year’s Eve I found my little brother throwing stuff at me and screaming at me to wake up and that I needed to get up for the Wave game. It was around eleven thirty and we were leaving in ten minutes my neighbor Jackson was already at my house ready to go so I rushed upstairs and put on some pants a shirt and my SC Waukesha jacket. I then grabbed a pop-tart and headed out the door and into the car on the ride to the game it was me my brother, cousins and friend Jackson in the car. We were following another family to the game. My cousin Rachel being the great driver she is didn’t see the other family’s vehicle exit the highway and made a late turn cutting off another driver. She then didn’t see the car we were following make another turn and cut off the same vehicle and got a less than friendly hand gesture pointed in our direction. I'm still not sure if the gesture was given to us for my cousins bad driving, my other cousins waving to the person we just cut off… twice, or the combination. We then stopped at a stop light where the car we cut off was side by side with us. When the light turned green they threw their water bottle out of their car and into our direction. Their throw missed our car we then continued to drive into a overpriced parking lot and went into the game.
